Fujima Yoshinojo (Rika Lin) presents an original work, Asobi: Playing within Time that transgresses her background in traditional Japanese dance to explore perceptions of gender with an original score and video by Tatsu Aoki and Reduction Ensemble. Following Yoshinojo, choreographer Joshua Ishmon presents Redefining BLACK in collaboration with Sam "Trump" Harris on vocals/trumpet and a group of live dancers. The choreography reflects conversations, stories, and emotions about the word, color, and race 'black' that emerged in a series of community discussions organized by Ishmon for the creation of the piece.
