The Harris Theater is proud to be one of only five venues worldwide presenting Sir John Eliot Gardiner's complete Beethoven symphony cycle on period instruments in 2020 — Beethoven's 250th anniversary year.
Gardiner’s approach to Beethoven takes us to the raison d’être of the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique (ORR), summoning the extraordinary era of music at the dawn of the Romantic period. The orchestra's interpretations of Beethoven have been described by The New York Times as “fresh...with gutsy, brash and rasping instrumental voices united in triumph."
The iconic conductor will lead performances of all nine symphonies, plus excerpts from The Creatures of Prometheus and Fidelio, over the course of five evenings, February 27–March 3, 2020. Learn more about the symphony cycle and Gardiner's pioneering approach to these works below.
