Parks of The Magnificent Mile and Streeterville Seneca Park/ Eli M. Schulman Playground and Lake Shore Park Announce Summer of Free Activities and Movies

The Advisory Councils of Seneca Park/Eli M. Schulman Playground and Lake Shore Park have again teamed up with great community partners to sponsor free events in their Parks and the Lake Shore Park Film Festival will present 6 free movies in Lake Shore Park.

  • Wellness Walks on the Lake Shore Park Track weekly on Tuesday evenings at 5:15pm starting on June 4th. Northwestern University Medical students lead 45-minute weekly park walks and lead informal discussions on health-related topics. Wellness walks will occur starting June 4th and continue every week until September 10th. Sponsored by Chicago Parks Foundation.
  • Starting on June 5th, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago will be hosting Movement for Wellness: Mindful Movement in the Park with Teaching Artist June Tanoue at 10am on June 5th, 12th ,19th and the 26th.
  • The Grand Opening of the SOAR Farmers Market is on Tuesday, June 11th at the MCA Plaza. On that day the Ann & Robert Lurie Children’s Hospital Food, Activity and Nutrition Programs will debut its Summer Wellness Sessions from 11-1 giving tips on how to feed your family nutritiously and move your body. The Lurie Wellness Sessions will continue on June 25th, July 30th, August 27th and September 24th.
  • On Tuesday, June 11th, American Girl will return to the Eli M. Schulman Playground from 3-4 with its free crafts in the park program and continuing on June 25th, July 9th, July 23rd , August 6th and August 20th. Lake Shore Park will host Skate into Summer for teens on Thursday, June 13th from 5 to 7pm and all ages on Friday, June 14th from 6-8pm.
  • The Lake Shore Park Film Festival kicks off its 6-movie series on Saturday, June 15th with the summer premiere Movie in the Park of “Barbie,” the top grossing movie of 2023 sponsored by Alderman Brian Hopkins. Come early for a Barbie look-alike contest at 7:30 with the movie at 8:30. PG-13
  • On June 22nd and 23rd, the Magnificent Mile Arts Festival produced by Amdur Productions and hosted by 875 North Michigan and the Magnificent Mile Association will be held at 875 N. Michigan Avenue just one block north of Seneca Park.
  • On Thursday, June 27th, Seneca Park hosts two community favorites: first at 4:30 when Lookingglass Theater Company presents “A Lookingglass UnBirthday Party” followed at 6pm by Porchlight Theater Company’s “Broadway in Your Backyard” sponsored by the Chicago Park District’s Night Out in the Parks.
  • On July 9th at 8:30pm, the Lake Shore Film Festival Movie in the Park will feature “Wonka, the Famous but Eccentric Chocolatier”-PG, sponsored by Northwestern Medicine.
  • The Happiness Club, Chicago’s favorite kids, will host a dance party and performance in the Eli M. Schulman Playground at Seneca Park at 6pm on Wednesday, July 10th.
  • On July 13 at 8:30pm, the Lake Shore Film Festival Movie in the Park will feature “The Boys in the Boat,” the incredible true story of underdogs working together and reaching the Olympics-PG-13, sponsored by Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
  • On July 27 at 8:30pm, the Lake Shore Film Festival Movie in the Park will feature “A Dog’s Journey,” Bailey makes a promise to his owner, Bailey’s soul jumps through multiple lives-PG, sponsored by Chicago Park District’s Night Out in the Parks.
  • On Sunday, July 28th at 6:30pm, Lake Shore Park will host The Beatles Singalong. “Come Together” with your neighbors and friends to sing, hum or just listen. Song books will be provided.
  • On Tuesday, July 30th at noon, Eli’s Cheesecake will celebrate its favorite day of the year, National Cheesecake Day, giving aways slices of Eli’s Cheesecake at the Chicago Avenue entrance for Seneca Park.
  • The Grant Park Music Festival returns to Lake Shore Park on Thursday, August 1st at 6:30pm sponsored by the Chicago Park District’s Night Out in the Parks.
  • On August 3 at 8:30pm, the Lake Shore Park Film Festival Movie in the Park will feature “The Hunger Games: the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”-PG-13
  • On Friday, August 23rd at 6pm, CircEsteem’s Circus in the Parks comes to Lake Shore Park. An open air extravaganza that blends aerial thrills with captivating ground performance and sponsored by the Chicago Park District’s Nights Out in the Parks.
  • On August 24 at 8:30pm, the Lake Shore Film Festival Movie in the Park will feature “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning,” Ethan Hunt and his IMF Team, should they choose to accept the mission, must track down a dangerous weapon-PG-13 Brochures for the summer are attached listing all of the summer partners.
